I
build
A and
F style mandolins based on the classic mandolins of the
1920's and 1930's.
I personally hand select each piece of tone wood, not only looking
for exceptional tonal properties but the finest visual qualities
as well. The top and back plates are hand carved and
tapped tuned and the neck is joined in the traditional fashion.
My mandolins feature a spruce top, curly maple back and sides
and an ebony fingerboard. However, I also use alternate tone
woods upon request.
A variety of
shell inlay may be used to create your own custom design
to make your Sohn mandolin a truly unique work of art. Every
aspect of the inlay work is hand done.
Sohn mandolins are available in a variety of different colors,
from a vintage cremona sunburst to honey blonde in satin or
high gloss nitrocellulose lacquer. A vintage or modern varnish
finish is available upon request. Click on photo of James Whittall to see his Sohn mandolin in action.
